Workforce Needs
The 4-Cs of 21st Century Skills - Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication and Creativity includes
PROBLEM SOLVING - the latest transversal skills applicable to all work tasks across the sectors.
Today’s workplaces demand people who can solve non-routine problems, and who can do so in concert with others by sharing ideas and efforts. Digitalization is also increasing opportunities for collaboration in both the workforce and civic contexts, such as volunteering and social networking, through ICTs.
New entries into the workforce and public life will encounter collaborative situations
and be expected to have the necessary
collaborative problem-solving skills to thrive.
Collaborative problem solving is increasingly recognized
as an important 21st century skill as it has several advantages over individual problem solving: tasks can be divided equally, a variety of perspectives and experiences can be applied to try and find solutions, and team members can support and stimulate one another, in turn enhancing the creativity and quality of solutions.
However, if managed poorly, collaboration can also quickly lead to communication issues, interpersonal conflict and inefficiencies. It is therefore important that workers develop the skills needed to engage in successful collaborative problem solving.

What Does the Future of Work
Look Like Today?
We are living the Fourth Industrial Revolution that
builds upon innovation to revolutionalize industries
across sectors in a globally-entwined world that is
technologically advanced with the Internet of Things,
Artificial Intelligence, Alternative and Renewable Energy,
Quantum Computing, Biotechnology, etc. Resulting new
fields, new careers and new markets will require new
skillsets, automation and robotics will take over some
jobs while other jobs, social innovation and entrepreneurship
that didn't exist before will be in-demand. Despite these
predictions that have become reality in the Future of Work
today, workers will still need to possess transversal skills -
the "soft skills" that are not taught as a discipline in formal
education - to thrive in the 21st Century workforce.
